My history with concrete

Concrete has been in our family history for over 50 years. My Grandfather migrated from Italy to Wales in the 1960’s to peruse a career in concrete flooring. Successful in this, my father took over the business in my very youngest years and I was brought up surrounded by concrete, developing a huge interest and knowledge in the material. I’m passionate to continue our family love for concrete as well as adding my own twist - concrete design. Inspired to be the third generation to have a business in concrete and keep my family history I’ve created my very own business TheConcreteCorner.

My mission

My goal is to spread my love for concrete design and show that concrete can be seen as a decorative and aesthetic material. Passionate for showcasing concrete within a domestic environment, I have a goal to change the perspective of concrete and show that it can not only be used for manufacturing but homeware design as well. I’m excited to encourage the new popularity of concrete design and develop and grow my collection, discussing ideas with my customers and getting the opportunity to work on designs, create new products and grow my business.

My journey

I have been creative from a very young age and I always knew I wanted to pursue a career that allowed me to express my passion for art and design. I studied a 2 year course after school that offered me a taste of working in art and design and gave me the opportunity to see what university would be like. Following this I was accepted into Nottingham Trent University where I studied Product Design (BA). This degree gave me the oppurtunity to demonstrate my skills and develop vast knowledge and understanding of what it takes to be a designer. Four years later I was a graduate from Nottingham Trent University and began brainstorming ideas of how I could begin my journey as a creative designer.

Breaking the mould

Starting up TheConcreteCorner on my own has been both exciting and challenging, I have had to learn the ropes and what it takes to make a successful business. The most challenging but rewarding work I have done is to stop buying mass produced moulds and maufacture my own moulds that are original designs to myself. Although I had to take a break from production I am proud to say I have put my own stamp on my brand.

New beginnings

I have developed a range of products which are all designed and manufactured in-house and I am excited to keep adding to the range. Motivation from designing these products has increased my enthusiasm and I can’t wait for what the future holds for The Concrete Corner.
